Welcome to Spirit of ’61, an encyclopedia of early Civil War Virginia! This website is a work in progress, and I’ll be adding new articles and updating old articles regularly with new information and multimedia. I’ve created the first few pages based on my previous writing:

This is not a traditional blog–I will post updates here as well as news and events, but the main articles on this website will be connected to each other through links and also available in the top menu.
Because I’m a student of military history, I’ll be starting with the battles and working my way out from there. I’d like to include personalities, places, events, facilities (like Fort Monroe), and geographic locations.
Each article will eventually include text, sources, photos, timelines, and possibly even video and audio clips when appropriate.
